Value-Based Health Care Delivery: An Intensive Seminar May 12th - 16th, 2025

There is growing recognition that true health care reform will require major strategic and organizational changes in the way health care is actually delivered, measured, and reimbursed. As described in the book Redefining Health Care, by Michael Porter and Elizabeth Teisberg, value for patients can be assessed by the health outcomes achieved per dollar spent. Value-based health care delivery concepts start with providers but encompass new strategies for health plans, employers, and government. Professor Porter and the institute have developed a weeklong, intensive seminar focused on frameworks, application tools, and case studies highlighting real-life examples of organizations moving toward value-based care delivery models.

Overview:

The Value-Based Health Care Intensive Seminar is a five day, full-time course offered at Harvard Business School and is taught by Profs. Kaplan, Gallani, Dr. Witkowski, Dr. Bernstein and a team of faculty and health care industry leaders. Through a mix of case study discussions, case protagonist appearances and concept lectures, course participants will develop a thorough understanding of value-based health care principles, including an introduction to outcomes measurement and time-driven activity-based costing. While this program is designed primarily for those in health care delivery organizations, it is also relevant to many other professionals across the industry. Past participants have a background in one or several of the following health care specialty areas: clinical medicine (practitioners and trainees), executive administration/ management, academics/research, government/regulatory, insurance, supplier (e.g. medical device, pharmaceuticals), and professional services. Participants from the U.S. and other countries are invited to apply.
