Global Health Delivery
The Global Health Delivery Project (GHD) is a joint initiative of Harvard Business School's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Harvard Medical School's Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, and the Brigham and Women's Hospital Department of Global Health Equity. GHD launched in 2007 by World Bank Group President Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Dr. Paul Farmer from Partners in Health, and Professor Michael Porter.
Coordinated Knowledge Sharing
The Global Health Delivery Project is focused on systematizing the study of global health delivery and rapidly disseminating knowledge through a range of coordinated initiatives, including research and educational programs in the design and management of health care delivery systems in resource poor settings and the development of online collaboration tools. By taking an overall strategic perspective that emphasizes value, the project aims to bridge the gap between known science and the delivery of care in the field. The Global Health Delivery Project includes the following:
- Case Studies: GHD has researched, written, taught, and published 30 Harvard Business School-style teaching cases with accompanying guides for instructors that form the foundation for various health care delivery courses. Cases capture real-life scenarios and explore a range of issues, including how leaders implement value-based principles. The cases are available for all at no cost online through Harvard Business Publishing, GHDonline, and The Case Centre.
- GHDonline Professional Virtual Communities: GHDonline is a collaboration platform for global health professionals to connect and exchange insights about their work. Launched in 2008, GHDonline now hosts 8,500 members representing more than 2,500 organizations in 170 countries.
- Intensive coursework: The three-week summer program based at the Harvard School of Public Health trains global health trainees through a curriculum of epidemiology, management science, and health care delivery, featuring our case collection.
- Faculty Network: A growing network of educators from around the world is trained in teaching GHD cases. There is no cost for interested faculty to join the private community on GHDonline to discuss case-based global health delivery education.
- Research: Research cases explore the impact of global health initiatives on national health systems with commissions from the World Health Organization and UNAIDS.
