HARVARD PROFESSOR
MICHAEL E. PORTER RECEIVES 2005 DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTOR TO CASE RESEARCH
AND TEACHING AWARD

-- Michael E. Porter, Harvard’s Bishop William Lawrence University
Professor, based at Harvard Business School (HBS), and the world’s leading
authority on the competitive strategy of companies and countries, has been
honored as the recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Contributor to Case
Research and Teaching Award by the North American Case Research Association
(NACRA).
The largest
organization exclusively devoted to encouraging faculty to research, write,
and publish case studies, NACRA established the Award in the late 1980s to
recognize lifetime achievements and contributions.
Professor Porter joins
other past NACRA award winners, including Harvard Business School Professor
Emeritus Paul Lawrence and the late Professor C. Roland Christensen, who
was a champion of case method teaching during his long career at HBS.
Porter heads the
Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (ISC), a joint creation of
Harvard University and Harvard Business School to further his extensive
research. Among his other duties, he teaches a unique University-wide
course on competitiveness and economic development that is also taught at
56 other universities around the world using materials, video content, and
faculty training provided by Porter and his ISC colleagues.
A 1969 graduate of
Princeton University in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Porter earned
an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1971 and a Ph.D. in business
economics from Harvard University in 1973.
